Teachers face payment delays for grading matura exams

Teachers responsible for grading the 'matura' exams in Poland are facing significant delays in receiving their remuneration. Educators in Warsaw have reported that while payments typically arrived by late July in previous years, they have not yet been received during the current summer period.

A primary point of contention is the wording of the contracts. The agreements state that payments will be made within 60 days of the documentation being accepted, but they do not specify a deadline for when that acceptance must occur. Some teachers have consulted legal counsel, suggesting these terms are structured in a way that allows for potential exploitation of the workers.

The District Examination Commission (OKE) in Warsaw initially denied any delays, but later acknowledged that some teachers have not yet been paid. Officials attributed the delays to staffing shortages and stated that payments should be processed within the coming days. In response to the situation, the OKE has pledged to revise contract language next year to provide more precise payment timelines.
