Teachers in Feliciano face long commutes due to lack of transport

Teachers in San José de Feliciano, Entre Ríos, are facing significant difficulties commuting to their workplaces due to a lack of public transportation that aligns with school schedules. Many educators are forced to travel approximately 260 kilometers daily to reach schools in neighboring towns like Federación.

Natalia Oviedo, a teacher at Escuela N° 44 Del Boyero, described a multi-stage journey that involves using private taxis and hitchhiking. Her routine includes traveling from Feliciano to Federación, then hitchhiking through Chajarí and Los Conquistadores to return home. Oviedo noted that the lack of options forces teachers to seek positions outside their home city, as local vacancies are often filled.

Teachers have expressed concerns regarding the safety and time commitment required for these trips. In some instances, educators have waited up to two and a half hours in certain areas to find transport. While some have managed to privately hire vehicles for morning commutes, the return journey often remains dependent on the solidarity of passing motorists.
