Teachers in Italy face logistical issues with new school assignments

The Cisl Scuola Romagna union has raised concerns regarding the assignment of teaching positions for the upcoming school year, specifically affecting substitute teachers in the provinces of Rimini, Ravenna, and Forlì-Cesena.

The controversy centers on 'hourly positions' (posti orario), a mechanism designed to combine various teaching fragments into full-time contracts. While intended to provide economic stability, the union reports that the current allocation algorithm is creating significant logistical challenges. Instead of grouping nearby schools, the system is assigning teachers to locations as far as 37 kilometers apart, effectively turning substitute teachers into long-distance commuters.
