Teachers in Lemnos and Agios Efstratios request remote swearing-in

Newly appointed secondary school teachers in Lemnos and Agios Efstratios are requesting remote swearing-in ceremonies or the ability to complete the process locally. The teachers' union, ELME Lemnos, has submitted a request to the Ministry of Education and the Lesvos Secondary Education Directorate to avoid mandatory travel to Mytilene.

Union representatives argue that requiring teachers to travel to Mytilene solely for the ceremony imposes significant financial burdens and logistical hardships. Due to limited ferry and flight connections and high summer travel costs, teachers may face additional expenses for accommodation and meals. The union noted that many newly appointed teachers, including substitutes coming from long-term unemployment, may be forced to spend a large portion of their first salary on these travel costs before the school year even begins.
