Teachers protest in Puno over pension law regulations

Former and retired teachers in Puno, Peru, have taken to the streets to demand the regulation of Law No. 32580, which establishes improvements to teacher pensions. Although the law has been approved by Congress, beneficiaries report that they are still waiting for the executive branch to implement the necessary regulations to make payments effective.

Zarela Pineda Mazuelos, a representative of Maestros Cesantes del Perú (MACEP), stated that the process currently depends on executive entities, specifically the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). The proposed pension corresponds to the Full Monthly Remuneration (RIM) of the first magisterial scale, estimated at approximately S/ 3,500. Protesters have suggested a progressive payment implementation and are seeking a formal response from authorities to prevent further delays.
