German parents favor AI over adults for teaching moral values

A nationwide German survey of 3,485 adults, including 2,005 parents with children under 18, found that 41 % of parents agree that artificial intelligence can convey moral and social values such as respect, fairness and empathy better than parents or friends. The study also shows that 58 % of parents have already asked AI for parenting advice, especially those with children under six, while only 36 % say they always verify the AI’s answers. Children aged 10‑13 are reported to use AI frequently, with 57 % of respondents noting this trend. Around three quarters of parents consider it a major risk that children might trust AI over their own parents. Family psychologist Nina Grimm said the belief reflects parental insecurity rather than AI capability, emphasizing that genuine social skills develop only through human interaction.
