Teachers Service Commission issues fraud warning and new promotion guidelines

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a warning to schools regarding fraudulent social media messages claiming that financial contributions are required to facilitate teacher recruitment and promotion interviews. The Commission clarified that no fees are levied for these services, as recruitment and promotion are core mandates fully funded by the TSC. Heads of public basic education institutions have been cautioned against participating in any unauthorized financial engagements.

Separately, the TSC has introduced new guidelines for teacher promotions for the 2026/27 financial year. Moving away from the 2025/26 cycle, which prioritized age and seniority, the new framework emphasizes structured career progression and standardized assessments.

Under the new rules, teachers must serve at least three years in their current grade to be eligible. The framework also places increased importance on disciplinary records; teachers found guilty through disciplinary proceedings must wait two years before promotion consideration, while those with administrative warnings must wait one year. Satisfactory performance and conduct remain essential criteria for advancement.
