Teachers' Union in Logone Occidental demands concrete action from Chad government

The Logone Occidental section of the Teachers' Union of Chad (SET-LOC) has expressed deep concern regarding the living and working conditions of educators. In a statement released on September 7, 2026, in Moundou, the union criticized recent government announcements as insufficient to meet the urgent needs of the education sector.

While acknowledging planned salary increases of 10,000 FCFA in January 2027 and 5,000 FCFA in January 2028, the SET-LOC described these measures as a “drop in the ocean” compared to the challenges faced by teachers. The union is calling on the Chadian government to honor its commitments, specifically demanding the full application of Decree No. 2850 and the formal implementation of the agreement protocol reached with social partners.

The SET-LOC emphasized that restoring trust and ensuring a peaceful start to the school year requires substantial improvements to teacher welfare. The union also urged the national SET office to maintain transparency by providing regular updates to teachers regarding ongoing negotiations with the government.
