Teah Chavez advances to semifinals at Saskatoon Pro Tennis Classic

Saskatchewan’s 20‑year‑old tennis player Teah Chavez has reached the semifinals of the Saskatoon Pro Tennis Classic, a Women’s Tennis Association‑ranking event held at the Riverside Tennis Club. In singles she defeated Japan’s Erika Sema 7‑5, 6‑2 in the Round of 16 and then beat compatriot Miho Kuramochi 6‑3, 6‑3 to book a spot in the Saturday semifinal.

In doubles, Chavez teamed with fellow Canadian Scarlett Nicholson and advanced to the final, where they lost a three‑set marathon 6‑4, 3‑6, 10‑8 to the American pair Alyssa Ahn and Kaya Moe. Chavez said the partnership “has been the best” and that their long‑standing friendship since age ten helped their success. The Regina athlete, a recent Big 10 women’s tennis player of the year after her Ohio State season, is hoping her performance will earn her a berth at the National Bank Open later this year.
