Teah Chavez Wins First Saskatoon Pro Tennis Classic Singles Title for Saskatchewan

Teah Chavez, a 20‑year‑old from Saskatchewan, captured the singles crown at the Saskatoon Pro Tennis Classic, becoming the first woman from the province to win the event since its launch in 2019. She said the victory felt "amazing" and recalled, "When I heard the ref say out I was like, ‘Oh, it finally happened,’ … I kind of blacked out a little."

Chavez rallied after letting the deciding third set slip from a 5‑1 lead to close out the match, while she and partner Scarlett Nicholson were defeated in the doubles final by Americans Alyssa Ahn and Kaya Moe. Although she did not secure a wildcard for the 2026 National Bank Open in Toronto, she has been entered into the 2026 Odlum Brown VanOpen in Vancouver, a W125‑level tournament.

The triumph follows a breakout season that saw her named Big Ten Women’s Tennis Player of the Year after a junior campaign at Ohio State and a rise to world No. 950. Chavez hopes the momentum will carry her forward, noting the confidence boost from beating higher‑ranked opponents.
