Team England wheelchair basketball clinches silver at Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Team England’s men’s wheelchair basketball team reached the final of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow but were beaten 19‑13 by Australia, earning a silver medal. The side had earlier defeated Canada and upgraded from a bronze finish four years earlier. In the same tournament the women’s wheelchair team captured gold. Captain Oscar Knight said he was disappointed not to win gold but praised the experience, noting the scale of the multi‑sport event and the support from National Lottery funding that underpins the 251 English athletes competing in Glasgow. The players said they were proud of their achievement and plan to celebrate in the city while looking ahead to future competitions.

The silver medal reflects the continued growth of England’s wheelchair basketball programme and the importance of lottery‑derived funding for elite sport in the United Kingdom.
