Team Vigilant wins inaugural New York Yacht Club Women’s International Championship
The inaugural New York Yacht Club Women’s International Championship concluded in Newport, Rhode Island, featuring an elite field of 20 sailors from 14 nations. The regatta was contested in a fleet of 37-foot IC37 keelboats.
Team Vigilant, led by Megan Grapengeter-Rudnick, secured victory in the historic event. Despite facing challenging conditions and a dying breeze on the final day, the team maintained enough of a lead from previous days to ensure the win. Tactician Stephanie Roble noted that the team had spent two years focusing on their training process to prepare for the competition.
The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (RSYS) also participated, finishing 11th overall in the nine-race series. Led by Vice Commodore and three-time Olympian Karyn Gojnich, the RSYS crew represented a significant milestone for the club’s women’s sailing development pathway.
