Team Wallraff investigation reveals safety issues in Spanish youth travel

An undercover investigation by “Team Wallraff” has revealed concerning conditions regarding commercial youth travel providers in Lloret de Mar and Malgrat de Mar, Spain. Reporters monitored three major providers—RUF, FUN/FIT, and GO—to assess how they manage the safety of minors during organized trips.

The investigation documented instances where underage travelers were provided with alcohol, despite local laws. In one specific case involving RUF, a reporter working as a “Night Guard” observed a young woman who was barely conscious after a party. The girl reportedly collapsed several times while being carried to her room, yet staff appeared uncertain whether to call for medical assistance, and an ambulance was not summoned.

Findings also suggested that alcohol plays a central role in the marketing and execution of these trips. FUN/FIT reportedly advertised excursions involving special drink discounts, while GO utilized wristbands to indicate guests who consume alcohol. The report also noted concerns regarding the handling of suspected drug-facilitated crimes, such as the use of “K.O. drops,” and whether staff are sufficiently trained to handle medical emergencies.
