teamLab opens immersive digital art exhibition in Chicago

The Japanese art collective teamLab has launched an expansive exhibition titled ‘teamLab: Everything Exists in Infinite Continuity’ at the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago. The showcase features nine monumental installations that explore the intersection of art, science, and technology through a human-centric lens.

The exhibition includes a range of works, from early computer-generated monitor art to recent immersive experiences. Notable pieces include ‘Massless Suns and Dark Suns’, which is making its North American debut, and new installations such as ‘Sea of Darkness, Memory Shining from the Depths and Sea’.

Many of the works are interactive, responding to the presence and touch of visitors. For example, ‘Order in Chaos’ features energetic lines that react to physical contact, while ‘The World of Irreversible Change’ simulates a society that descends into war if the digital environment is disturbed too frequently. Other works, such as ‘Continuous Life and Death at the Now of Eternity II’, respond to real-time environmental changes, such as the sunrise and sunset in Chicago.
