Teatr Wielki in Łódź presents premiere of ‘Coppélia’ ballet

The Teatr Wielki in Łódź is hosting the premiere of Léo Delibes’ ballet ‘Coppélia’ after a 26-year hiatus. This new production features live music performed by the Łódź Opera orchestra, a departure from previous stagings that utilized recorded music.

The production is led by Argentine conductor Luis Gorelik, with choreography by French artist Julien Guérin and sets designed by Roland Fontaine. The ballet, based on a dark fantasy tale about a dollmaker, includes elements of Central and Eastern European dance, such as the Polish mazur and the Hungarian czardas.

Other cultural events in the Łódź region include a meeting with writer Michał Witkowski at the Provincial Public Library and a concert by the Bacewicz String Quartet promoting the works of composer Paweł Klecki.
