Teatro Amazonas hosts free performance of “A Ilha Profana do Cantagalo”

The play “A Ilha Profana do Cantagalo,” produced by Grupo Jurubebas de Teatro, is returning to Manaus for a free performance at the Teatro Amazonas on October 4. The production is part of the 20th Amazon Theater Festival (FTA) as part of the Mostra Jurupari Adulto.

The play was developed through artistic research in the riverside community of Acará, located in the Baixo Madeira region of Amazonas. It incorporates local cultural elements, such as the Gambá de Borba, an Afro-Amazonian rhythm. The narrative follows a boy searching for his parents after discovering his grandmother is a Rasga-Mortalha, blending human stories with the supernatural imagery of the Amazon.

Before returning to Manaus, the production toured several Brazilian states, including Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul, where it received six awards at a theater festival.
