Teatro Casa Grande celebrates 60 years with Fernanda Montenegro

Teatro Casa Grande in Rio de Janeiro celebrated its 60th anniversary with a special presentation by actress Fernanda Montenegro. The event featured the production ‘Nelson Rodrigues por Ele Mesmo’ for an exclusive group of guests.

Since its opening in 1966 as a café-theatre, the institution has served as a significant cultural and political landmark. It hosted pivotal moments in Brazilian history, including early amnesty demonstrations, Diretas Já meetings, and the announcement of the end of censorship during the transition to democracy. The theater has navigated various challenges over six decades, including a structural reconstruction following a 2008 fire and adapting to digital programming during the pandemic.
