Teatro Coccia to host Puccini’s Turandot for centenary celebrations

Teatro Coccia in Novara will host two performances of Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot on October 23 and October 25. The production marks the centenary of the opera’s first performance, which took place at La Scala in Milan on April 25, 1926.

This new production is a collaborative effort between OperaLombardia—comprising the theaters of Brescia, Como, Cremona, Pavia, and Bergamo—and the Teatro del Giglio Giacomo Puccini in Lucca. The staging will feature the unfinished version of the score, mirroring the historical performance conducted by Arturo Toscanini in 1926, where the music was halted at the point where Puccini died.

The cast includes Libby Sokolowski as Princess Turandot, Roberto Aronica as Calaf, Songha Lee as Liù, Baopeng Wang as Timur, and Gerardo Dell’Affetto.
