Teatro dell’Opera di Roma hosts Italian premiere of Claus Guth’s Mozart production

The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma will host the Italian premiere of Claus Guth’s production of Mozart’s ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ from September 15 to 23, 2026. Originally created in Salzburg in 2006, this internationally recognized staging moves away from traditional comedy of errors to focus on a psychological investigation of human relationships, desire, and the tension between rational thought and irrational impulses.

The production features a cast including Germán Olvera, Roberta Mantegna, Martina Russomanno, Erwin Schrott, and Elmina Hasan, with Emmanuel Tjeknavorian making his debut at the Teatro Costanzi as conductor. The set, designed by Christian Schmidt, depicts a bourgeois residence in the early 20th century, centered around an imposing staircase.

A special preview for young audiences is scheduled for September 13, and the premiere on September 15 will be broadcast live on Radio3.
