Teatro dell’Opera di Roma to premiere Matteo D’Amico opera
The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has commissioned a new opera, ‘La vita nuda’, composed by Matteo D’Amico with a libretto by Sandro Cappelletto. The production will premiere at the Teatro Nazionale from October 20 to 25, 2026, marking the 90th anniversary of the death of Luigi Pirandello.
Conceived as a single act, the work integrates two of Pirandello’s texts: ‘L’uomo dal fiore in bocca’, which explores the impact of illness on a protagonist, and ‘La patente’, a grotesque judicial tale involving a man accused of bringing misfortune. The setting places characters in a small railway station during a power outage, using the suspended time to weave the narratives together.
The production features musical direction by Alessandro Cadario and direction by Cecilia Ligorio. The cast includes Omar Montanari, Andrea Concetti, Annunziata Vestri, Maria Grazia Schiavo, Blagoj Nacoski, Marcello Nardis, Roberto Abbondanza, and Federico Longhi. Scenography by Gregorio Zurla is inspired by cinematic neorealism.
