Teatro di San Carlo to premiere Mozart’s Mitridate

The Teatro di San Carlo in Naples is hosting the premiere of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s ‘Mitridate, re di Ponto’. Composed when the composer was only fourteen, the opera is being staged for the first time at this venue.

Directed by Claus Guth and conducted by Riccardo Frizza, the production is a co-production involving Teatro Real Madrid, Oper Frankfurt, and Gran Teatre del Liceu. The cast features Giovanni Sala in the title role, alongside Sara Blanch, Mariangela Sicilia, Franco Fagioli, Giuliana Gianfaldoni, Alasdair Kent, and Agustín Pennino.

In addition to the opera performances scheduled between September 24 and October 1, Riccardo Frizza will also conduct a symphonic concert on September 27 featuring soloist Leōnidas Kavakos.
