Teatro Karl Marx to host Mexican musical contest in Havana

The Teatro Karl Marx in Havana will host the grand finale of the “Serenata a México” musical contest to commemorate the 216th anniversary of Mexico's Independence. The event, organized by the Mexican Embassy in Cuba, features eight finalists competing in two categories: Juan Gabriel compositions and ranchera music.

During a press conference, Mexican Ambassador Miguel Díaz Reynoso emphasized the event as a celebration of the cultural ties and friendship between Mexico and Cuba. He highlighted shared heritage, such as the bolero, and noted the popularity of Mexican music across Cuban radio stations. The festivities will also include a civic ceremony for the “Grito de Dolores.”

The competition is judged by a panel led by local singer Beatriz Márquez. As part of the cultural exchange, traditional “Árbol de la vida” handicrafts will be presented to various participating radio stations and entities.
