Teatro La Fenice faces strikes following Shanghai performance

Teatro La Fenice workers have announced two days of strikes scheduled for November 13 and November 28. The labor action coincides with the inauguration of the opera season and the start of the symphonic season.

Multiple unions, including RSU, Slc-Cgil, Fistel-Cisl, Uilfpc-Uil, and Fials Cisal, cited ongoing issues regarding labor organization, the quality of union relations, and a lack of professional recognition. The unions specifically pointed to the recent production of Puccini’s ‘Tosca’ in Shanghai as evidence of organizational, technical, and artistic deficiencies.

Despite the labor disputes, the performance at the new Shanghai Grand Opera House received significant acclaim, earning over ten minutes of applause from an audience of approximately two thousand people. The event was attended by Italian Ambassador Massimo Ambrosetti and other officials, serving as a high-profile moment of cultural diplomacy between Italy and China.
