Teatro Libero in Palermo hosts Shakespearean production
The production ‘Giulio Cesare o la notte della Repubblica’ is returning to the Teatro Libero in Palermo on October 23 and 24. Produced by A. M. A. Factory as part of the ‘Il Mulino di Amleto’ project, the play is directed by Marco Lorenzi.
Lorenzi and Lorenzo De Iacovo have provided a dramaturgical rewriting of William Shakespeare’s tragedy to explore contemporary themes. The performance examines the fragility of democratic institutions, the construction of consensus, political violence, and the manipulation of information.
The narrative focuses on Brutus, a character torn between his affection for Caesar and his conviction that the Republic must be saved. The production uses this historical conflict to question the boundaries between personal ambition and political ideals, specifically investigating whether the defense of a political order can become a justification for violence.
