Teatro Lirico Sperimentale debuts new opera in Spoleto

The Teatro Lirico Sperimentale ‘A. Belli’ is presenting the world premiere of ‘Una promessa infranta’, a new chamber opera by Federico Gardella. The production, commissioned by the theater, will be staged at the Teatro Caio Melisso in Spoleto from August 21 to August 23, with a preview scheduled for August 20.

Based on a story by Lafcadio Hearn from the collection ‘Ombre giapponesi’, the opera follows a man who breaks a promise made to his dying wife that he would never remarry. The libretto and direction are handled by Cecilia Ligorio, focusing on the psychological dimensions of the characters rather than exoticism. The musical direction is led by Mimma Campanale, with sets and lighting by Alberto Favretto and costumes by Clelia De Angelis.
