Teatro Lope de Vega to reopen in Seville after major restoration

The historic Teatro Lope de Vega in Seville is set to reopen on September 12, marking its return after being closed for two and a half years. The reopening will coincide with the inauguration of the XXIV Bienal de Flamenco, featuring the production ‘Dorantes’.

The extensive rehabilitation project involves a total investment exceeding 20 million euros. This includes 10 million euros in current funds, 5 million euros planned for the next two years, and 6.3 million euros already allocated for exterior works. Recent upgrades include the restoration of the monumental central lamp with its 240 bulbs, the installation of a digitized fireproof curtain, and new burgundy velvet upholstery for the seating area.

Seville Mayor José Luis Sanz, who visited the site during a technical tour for the press, defended the decision to close the theater, describing it as a ‘brave’ move necessary to address the building's condition. While much of the interior is complete, some areas, such as ‘El Paraíso’, still require further work scheduled for next summer.
