Teatro Massimo hosts John Turturro’s production of Rigoletto

Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Rigoletto has returned to the stage at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. The production features a staging by John Turturro, created in co-production with the Teatro Regio di Torino, the Shaanxi Opera House, and the Opéra Royal de Wallonie.

Conductor Gianna Fratta led the Teatro Massimo Orchestra, Chorus, and Ballet. The production includes choreography by Giuseppe Bonanno, sets by Francesco Frigeri, and costumes by Marco Piemontese.

French baritone Ludovic Tézier made his Palermo debut in the title role, performing alongside soprano Giuliana Gianfaldoni as Gilda. Francesco Demuro also performed in the role of the Duke of Mantua. An alternative cast, including Roman Burdenko as Rigoletto, is scheduled for subsequent performances.
