Teatro Piccinni opens 2026/2027 season with Eduardo De Filippo production

The Teatro Piccinni in Bari has launched its 2026/2027 season with a production of ‘Il sindaco del rione Sanità’, one of Eduardo De Filippo’s most celebrated works. The play is directed by and stars Geppy Gleijeses.

Set in 1960, the comedy follows Don Antonio Barracano, a respected and feared figure known as the ‘mayor of the Sanità district,’ who possesses a personal sense of justice. The production features a cast of fourteen actors, including Pino Micol as Dr. Fabio Della Ragione. Gleijeses’s version runs for approximately ninety minutes, a condensed format from De Filippo’s original three-act structure.
