Teatro Sistina hosts musical about Andrea Spezzacatena
The musical “Il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa,” directed by Massimo Romeo Piparo, is scheduled to run at the Teatro Sistina from October 29 to November 1, before embarking on a tour of various Italian cities. The production tells the story of Andrea Spezzacatena, a 15-year-old who died in 2012 following months of bullying and cyberbullying.
Adapted from the book by Andrea’s mother, Teresa Manes, and the subsequent film, the jukebox musical features a playlist of Italian pop-rock songs arranged by Emanuele Friello. The stage adaptation uses a narrative device to portray Andrea at both age 15 and age 27, representing the future he never reached. The production aims to use art and music to stimulate reflection on the social consequences of bullying among youth, families, and institutions.
