Teatro Vila Velha reopens in Salvador after R$ 28.6 million renovation

Teatro Vila Velha has officially reopened in Salvador, Bahia, following a comprehensive revitalization project. The renovation involved an investment of R$ 28.6 million, with R$ 14.6 million allocated to physical works and R$ 14 million for new equipment. Improvements include upgrades to air conditioning, accessibility, lighting, sound, audiovisual systems, security, and technical installations.

The reopening ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture Margareth Menezes and Mayor Bruno Reis. Menezes highlighted the venue's historical significance to both Bahian and Brazilian culture. The theater's director, Márcio Meirelles, noted that the new phase includes the inauguration of a space dedicated to the theater's archive.

A diverse program is scheduled through January, featuring theatrical plays, regional and international groups, and educational initiatives. Initial activities include the ‘Pé de Feijão’ program for children from local communities and the school system, followed by a long-running season of the play ‘Nilda’ between October and November.
