Teatro Viriato joins accessible programming theater network

Teatro Viriato, located in Viseu, has joined the Rede de Teatros com Programação Acessível (RTPA), a network of theaters with accessible programming. Coordinated by Acesso Cultura, the network aims to improve cultural access outside of major urban centers like Lisbon and Porto.

Director António M. Cabrita stated that joining the network will allow the theater to strengthen its resources for audio description and Portuguese Sign Language interpretation for various shows. The theater already provides adapted seating for those with limited mobility and offers free entry for companions of people with disabilities.

The RTPA is supported by Fundação ‘la Caixa’ in collaboration with BPI. Other member institutions include cultural structures in Guimarães, Lagoa, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Loulé, Coimbra, Viana do Castelo, Ponte de Lima, Leiria, Funchal, Braga, Barcelos, and Póvoa de Varzim.
