Tecate Mayor urged to collect property taxes without privileges

The Baja California State Congress has issued an exhortation to Tecate Mayor Román Cota Muñoz to ensure the equitable collection of property taxes. The request emphasizes that tax collection must be implemented without privileges or distinctions, specifically targeting individuals with ties to authorities, such as relatives, friends, public servants, or business owners.

Deputy María Teresa Méndez Vélez noted that property tax is a vital revenue source for municipal public works and services. She highlighted that current collection rates in Tecate remain low, estimating that only four out of ten taxpayers currently comply with their obligations. The initiative follows an administrative coordination agreement between the Tecate City Council and the State Government aimed at increasing revenue through actions directed at taxpayers with outstanding balances.
