Tech companies embrace forward-deployed engineer model
The forward-deployed engineer (FDE) model is seeing rapid adoption across the technology sector, with companies embedding engineers directly into customer organizations to accelerate product adoption and solve specific technical problems. Companies such as Superhuman, Infor, and Leaping AI report that this model has reduced deployment timelines from months to weeks.
Data from Indeed indicates a significant surge in demand, with job listings for FDE roles increasing by more than 729% between April 2025 and April 2026. Major industry players have committed substantial resources to this approach: Amazon announced a $1 billion investment in a new FDE unit, while Microsoft launched a $2.5 billion initiative. Other major firms, including Anthropic, OpenAI, and Salesforce, have also established similar programs in 2026.
