Tech giants expand cloud and AI infrastructure amid rising demand

Major technology companies including Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are significantly expanding their cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Amazon has increased its capital expenditure forecast from $200 billion to $220 billion this year, driven by rising memory chip prices and high demand for AI computing power. Amazon's cloud division, AWS, reported a 37 percent year-on-year revenue increase to $42.2 billion, exceeding analyst expectations.

This expansion is driving the construction of massive hyperscale data centers globally. In Austria, projects by Google, Microsoft, and Digital Realty are increasing, with Google planning a facility in Kronstorf that could consume up to 1.31 terawatt-hours of electricity in its first stage. Such large-scale developments have raised concerns regarding power grid stability, noise pollution, and ecological impact, leading to protests in countries such as Germany, the USA, and Mexico.
