SpaceX secures $40 billion debt for AI GPU procurement FAST-MOVING

Elon Musk has announced that SpaceX has secured $40 billion in debt financing to fund the purchase of advanced graphics processing units (GPUs) for artificial intelligence infrastructure. The funds are primarily intended for hardware deliveries expected in the first and second quarters of 2027.

Musk attributed the company's ability to access these markets to its investment-grade credit rating and diversified revenue streams from Starlink satellite internet and rocket launch services. This distinguishes SpaceX from specialized “neocloud” providers—firms that rent out AI computing power—which Musk warns are facing a massive industry shakeout. He predicted that over 200 such companies could face consolidation or failure as debt markets increasingly restrict funding to firms without substantial revenue independent of AI data centers.

SpaceX's recent financial performance shows significant growth, with third-quarter revenue increasing 161 percent year-on-year to $14.58 billion. The company's AI-related division, which includes data center leasing, saw revenues jump nearly ninefold to $7.56 billion during the same period. To manage the massive capital requirements, reports indicate the financing may be structured through a special purpose vehicle to keep the debt off SpaceX's primary balance sheet.
