Tech neck management through ergonomics and posture monitoring software

The prevalence of 'tech neck'—a condition caused by prolonged use of digital devices—has led to new methods for managing spinal health and posture. This condition, characterized by forward head posture and muscle strain, can result in chronic pain, headaches, and physical changes such as rounded shoulders or a hump at the base of the neck.

To address this, ergonomic solutions include maintaining eye-level monitor placement, strengthening neck and upper back muscles through exercises like chin tucks, and ensuring proper spinal alignment.

Technological approaches are also emerging to provide real-time assistance. Using Python libraries such as MediaPipe and OpenCV, developers can build spine posture monitors that utilize webcams to track body landmarks. These systems can calculate the angle between the ear and shoulder to detect slouching and trigger system notifications to alert users to correct their posture.
