Spain advances AI and robotics through new hubs and industry initiatives

Several Spanish organizations are advancing artificial intelligence and automation initiatives. BBVA has announced the creation of an AI Transformation Hub in Bilbao, which will coordinate over 150 professionals specializing in data, analytics, and AI to integrate these technologies across the entire banking group.

In the industrial sector, the Spanish Association of Robotics and Automation (AER) launched the AER Automation Industrial Impact Startups 2026 contest. The initiative aims to connect mature Spanish technology startups in fields such as industrial AI, robotics, and IoT with the industrial fabric to accelerate market adoption.

Additionally, industry leaders recently met in Bilbao to discuss the strategic application of AI in business, focusing on governance, security, and European regulation. Separately, the first I Premios IA were held by LA RAZÓN, recognizing companies and professionals driving responsible AI innovation, with BBVA serving as a sponsor.
