Tech sector faces employability challenges for senior workers amid AI rise
The rise of artificial intelligence and rapid technological evolution is raising concerns regarding the employability of senior workers in the digital sector. According to data from Insee, individuals aged 50 and older represent only 19% of those employed in digital professions, compared to nearly one-third of the overall workforce.
Isabelle Rouhan, president of the Observatoire des Métiers du Futur, notes that while employers may harbor biases regarding the adaptability of older workers, AI automation could actually increase the value of senior experience. She argues that maturity provides the necessary discernment to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated outputs.
Scality, a French data infrastructure software company, serves as a counter-example to industry trends. CEO Jérôme Lecat maintains an age-agnostic hiring approach, reporting that 33% of the firm's employees are aged 50 or older, a rate significantly higher than the professional average.
