Netflix to lay off 1,000 employees in largest workforce cut since 2022

Netflix is laying off approximately 1,000 employees, representing about 6% of its global workforce. This marks the company’s largest reduction in staff since 2022. According to an internal memo sent by Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters, the job cuts will primarily impact the product, technology, legal, and human resources departments.

The restructuring comes as the streaming giant faces intensifying competition from platforms like YouTube and TikTok, as well as legacy media rivals. Investors have also expressed concerns regarding user engagement and the company's ability to sustain rapid growth. Despite the layoffs, leadership emphasized that the business remains strong and is on track to meet its full-year financial forecasts.

Netflix reported 2025 revenue of $45.2 billion and a net income of $11 billion. The company plans to continue investing in high-impact areas such as advertising, live programming, and gaming to diversify revenue streams and drive innovation.
