Tech sector updates: Xiaomi smartphone leaks, LG AI discovery, and OpenAI model changes

Several major technology developments have emerged across the consumer electronics and AI sectors. Xiaomi is preparing to launch its Xiaomi 18 series, with leaks suggesting the Pro model will feature a 4-inch rear sub-screen capable of running AI-driven micro-applications and a dual 200MP camera system.

In biotechnology, LG AI Research announced that its EXAONE Discovery system successfully screened 420,000 chemical compounds in a single day. This process led to the identification of Rhamsydil, a new compound being developed to combat hair loss by improving scalp environments.

In the software space, OpenAI has announced it will phase out the GPT-5.5 model from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex services by October 14, 2026. Developers using Codex are advised to migrate to newer models like GPT-5.6 Sol or GPT-6 Astra to avoid workflow disruptions.

Additionally, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has been noted for using the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, a preference highlighted during a recent appearance at the All-In Summit.
