Techcombank and VPBank lead Vietnamese private bank profits in Q3 2026

Major Vietnamese private banks reported strong financial results for the first nine months of 2026. VPBank led the sector with a consolidated pre-tax profit of nearly 30,000 billion VND, a 47% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven by credit expansion and significant contributions from non-interest income, including payments, insurance, and investment banking.

Techcombank followed closely, recording a pre-tax profit of 28,900 billion VND for the nine-month period, representing a 23.7% year-on-year increase. In the third quarter alone, Techcombank's pre-tax profit rose 25.8% to 10,400 billion VND. The bank saw a 40% surge in service income and maintained a net interest margin (NIM) of 3.5% in Q3. Additionally, Fitch Ratings upgraded Techcombank’s long-term issuer default rating from BB- to BB with a stable outlook, citing improved asset quality and risk management capabilities.

Other notable performers in the nine-month period included ACB, SHB, and LPBank.
