TechIreland launches National AI Challenge 2026 in Galway

TechIreland, a not‑for‑profit data platform for Ireland’s tech ecosystem, has opened registrations for the National AI Challenge 2026. More than 300 developers, founders, students and AI enthusiasts from across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland will take part, building practical AI products, prototypes and agent‑based workflows.

The challenge runs for two weeks of remote development, after which teams present at coordinated regional events on 14 September. The strongest projects advance to the National AI Meet at the Galmont Hotel in Galway on 24 September, where they will be judged by leaders from technology, industry, investment, research and the public sector.

The 2026 theme, “AI & Agents: Strategy, Processes and Roles”, reflects a shift from experimentation to implementation. Niall Norton, CEO of TechIreland, said the competition “is much more than a competition… it is becoming part of Ireland’s AI talent infrastructure”. The programme is supported by expert mentors, industry partners, technology providers and more than ten regional innovation hubs, and emphasizes responsible, people‑centred AI across sectors such as enterprise technology, manufacturing, finance, health, sustainability, public services and immersive tech.
