Technical advancements in telecommunications and electrical power optimization

Technical research projects have been presented regarding telecommunications infrastructure in Peru and electrical system efficiency in Colombia.

In Peru, a project focused on the design and implementation of a point-to-point (PTP) microwave link to provide internet access for Are Yaku Pacha SAC on the Piura-Paita highway. The initiative aims to improve communication between the production plant and the central office in Piura to optimize operational efficiency. The design utilized atmospheric propagation studies and simulation tools like Radio Mobile to determine tower height and transmission power.

In Colombia, researchers from the Universidad de La Salle developed a methodology to minimize active power losses in electrical power systems through topological optimization. Using the IEEE 14-bus test system, the study compared three approaches: exhaustive search, genetic algorithms, and mixed-integer linear programming. The goal is to improve energy efficiency and reliability in electrical network planning by modeling transmission line reinforcement.
