Technical Chamber of Greece launches digital watercourse mapping system

The Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) is launching a new Information System for the Delimitation of Watercourses. This digital infrastructure aims to consolidate data previously scattered across hundreds of different files, services, and archives into a single, unified geospatial information system known as the Unified Digital Map.

The project covers the entire country and includes the digitization of existing delimitations as well as the collection of necessary data for over 8,000 kilometers of undelimited watercourses located in potentially high-risk flood zones. The system is designed to provide the state, municipalities, regions, engineers, and citizens with a clear and usable overview of watercourses and their boundaries.

By integrating this information into the Unified Digital Map, the initiative seeks to improve resilience against extreme weather events, enhance urban and environmental planning, and accelerate the processing of projects and licensing. The TEE will present the new system at an event titled ‘Watercourses acquire a digital identity!’ at Aegle Zappeion on September 28, 2026.
