Technical education in Chile shows rising salaries and high investment returns

A recent report from the Ministry of Education indicates that higher-level technical specialties, primarily offered by professional institutes and technical training centers, are seeing significant salary growth. These programs, which typically last five semesters or less, can offer salaries exceeding one million pesos by the fourth year after graduation.

Juan Pablo Guzmán, rector of Santo Tomás and president of the Consejo de Rectores Vertebral, noted that technical-professional education represents an efficient investment due to lower costs, shorter programs, and rapid labor market entry. He attributed the rising wages to a structural deficit of specialized technicians in Chile, noting that market demand is driving higher salaries to attract and retain qualified human capital.
