Technical University of Denmark hit by major cyberattack
The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has experienced a serious cyberattack resulting in a major breach of personal data security. Hackers gained access to the university’s identity and rights management system, allowing them to compromise DTU profiles and access the user database, DTUBasen.
Approximately 200,000 current and former users may be affected, including employees, students, guests, and partners. The database contains information on roughly 40,000 active users and 160,000 former users, with some data dating back to 2003. While the university has not yet determined the exact nature or volume of the stolen information, there are concerns regarding the potential exposure of sensitive personal details.
University Director Bjarke Bak Christensen described the incident as a ‘serious attack’ and stated that the university’s priority is to clarify the scope, limit consequences, and notify those affected. DTU has contained the attack, and investigations by both the university and authorities are ongoing.
