Technological innovation proposed as solution to climate and AI fears
During discussions in Pordenone, Claudio Cerasa and sociologist Guerino Nuccio Bovalino advocated for a perspective of technological optimism to counter prevailing fears regarding climate change and artificial intelligence.
Cerasa argues that the ecological transition should not lead to deindustrialization or anti-growth ideologies. Instead, he suggests that Europe must focus on innovation and technological solutions—including renewables, nuclear energy, and increased efficiency—to reconcile environmental goals with industrial competitiveness. He emphasizes that overcoming bureaucratic hurdles is essential for implementing these necessary technologies.
Bovalino proposes a “third way” between those who fear technology and those who are fully integrated with it, suggesting a return to a spirit of Futurism where humans remain in control. He calls for a “technology of hope” that serves as a tool to improve human life and pursue progress, rather than viewing artificial intelligence solely through the lens of existential risk or post-democratic reconfiguration.
