Technology and digital monitoring enhance Italian construction site safety
New technological and procedural approaches are being implemented to enhance safety at major construction sites in Italy. At the Autostrade per l'Italia Group's large-scale project between Florence and Incisa, workers are utilizing 4D Building Information Modeling (BIM) to integrate 3D modeling with work schedules. This pilot project, centered on the construction of the San Donato natural tunnel, allows technicians to visualize excavation phases in advance and plan safety measures via tablets.
Beyond advanced modeling, there is an increasing emphasis on visual monitoring and rigorous documentation to meet legal safety obligations. While mandatory documents like safety plans and coordination reports remain essential for legal compliance and accident investigation, continuous visual monitoring through dated imagery provides an objective record of site conditions. This digital support helps verify the presence of collective protections, area delimitations, and the management of inter-company interference without requiring a constant physical presence of an operator.
