Technoseum Mannheim Exhibition Highlights Counterfeit Coins as Reichsmark Notes Gain Collector Value

The Technoseum in Mannheim opened the "Crime – Technik der Kriminalität" exhibition on 25 June 2026, showcasing the technical methods of crime and their prevention. Among the displays are two 3‑Kreuzer Württemberg coins from 1818 – one genuine and one contemporary counterfeit – illustrating how counterfeiters altered metal composition and die markings.

Separately, German collectors are increasingly interested in pre‑1948 Reichsmark banknotes, which can no longer be exchanged at the Bundesbank. Prices vary by condition, rarity and issue year, with common notes fetching a few euros and rare, well‑preserved 1924 20‑Reichsmark notes reaching up to €2,000 on the market. Collectors are advised to assess preservation, avoid cleaning, and consult professional dealers for valuation.
