Teck Resources expands critical mineral production at Trail smelter

Teck Resources, the Canada Growth Fund, and the Natural Resources Critical Minerals Accelerator have signed a $400 million agreement to expand critical mineral production at Teck Trail Operations. This initiative is part of a broader investment plan that could reach up to $850 million to sustain and expand production at the Trail smelter.

The expansion focuses on elements like gallium and germanium. Dr. Daniel Boateng, a chemical engineer who joined Cominco (now Teck) in 1980, was instrumental in developing the processes used to recover germanium from waste, establishing the facility's long-standing role in the production of these strategically important minerals.
